Geography and film

Geography is often portrayed in film in many ways and sometimes by just watching a film can really support your knowledge and understanding in Geography.  My personal favourite is 'Slumdog Millionaire' for showing the shanty towns of Mumbai.

However, there are many more examples:
Brassed Off – industrial decline in the UK
The Day After Tomorrow – climate change has never been this traumatic!
City of God – the daily lives of young people in the favelas of Rio
Twister – the formation and impact of a twister
There Will Be Blood – industrial growth of a more economically developed country
Dante’s Peak – shows most of the features of a volcano
The Full Monty – industrial decline within the UK
Hotel Rwanda - refugees
Blood Diamond - the diamond trade
Finding Nemo - coral reefs

However one film I haven't seen yet is Rio.  I am really looking forward to watching this as I think it is something i can use when i teach Brazil to year 7.  What do you think?

Have you got a favourite geography film? or can think of any to add to the list  Tell us more  .....
